The wild wild west. Romantic? Sure in movies and stories of western lore. Yet all of the symbols above signify expansion into indigenous lands. Just the way it all came down. No stopping it. The tide of history ebbs and flows.

Pretty much true for every photo ever taken in the Americas.
David,
Thank you for directing us to think in terms of viewing these images as symbols of expansion. Not all expansion was by conquest or theft. Some (albeit perhaps precious little) was legitimate through negotiations. Your comments and shots made me think of modern “expansion” and the motivation for it. For example, it makes me think of how I could, as a photographer, illustrate symbolically the oppresive behavior of our modern day feudal Lords–the oppressive banking system.
Thanks for these shots and the challenge to think of them in terms of symbols to tell the story.
Great shot of Biff. What a face.
YOUNG TOM…..AKAKY
me too
I own one tie, it’s a Wallace and Grommet tie my daughter gave me for Christmas. I’ve never actually worn it.
What’s a tie???
Bill, I think that’s a pretty heavy burden for one tie to carry, especially a gray tie with red stripes.
