When I was a kid growing up in Va Beach I hunted and kept as pets the Eastern Box Turtle indigenous to those parts. I didn’t have anything to read about them, so I learned all of their habits, mating, food sources, hibernation techniques etc by just observing over about 3 years. Sometimes down on my belly crawling through the woods following Tippy my favorite to see what he would eat and where he would go. For hours I would do this. Once I realized he loved snails and worms I would then gather for him a daily gourmet meal. I kept several box turtles in captivity ( which I would never do today). Had mating and hatchlings. They were studied pets. Why turtles? No idea really except they were hard to find. Mysterious.Had to track them. Footprints in the sand. I liked the Tortoise and the Hare fable as a child. They had their protection built in. They lived to be 100. Anyway you can see why my son @erinharveypics might have decided to make this cartoon. Or do people really look like their pets?‪#‎turtles‬ ‪#‎easternboxturtle‬
